May 05, 1971 - Bomb Aboard - Airline pays237, 000 ransom.: Qantas, the Australian airline, today paid 500, 000 Australian dollars (237, 000) in cash demanded by a man who said a bomb had been planted in an airliner carrying 116 passengers. After the money had been handed over, the man revealed there was no bomb in the Qantas Boeing 707, which had been circling over Botany Bay to burn up fuel.
