Aug. 31, 1974 - Air Speed Record From New York to London Expected.: a New York-London air speed record of only two hours is expected to be set tomorrow (Sunday) when a Lookheed is expected to be set tomorrow (Sunday) when a Loockheed SR-71 Blackbird (shown here) of the United States Air Force arrives for the Farnborough Air Show. It will fly through a gate near New York at about 11 a.m. London Time at 80, 000 at. or twice the height of commercial airliners, and at around 1 pm pass through another gate some ten miles or more from the Sussex coast off Brighton to set the record. The Blackbird carries a crew of two who wear astronaut suits, is made of titanium and cruises at over three times the speed of sound or about 2, 000 m.p.h.
