May 05, 1974 - 25 years ago the Berlin Blockade was brought to an end: The 25 anniversary of raising the blockade the Berlinians can celebrate on May 11, and 12, 1974. From June 26, 1948 until May 12, 1949 the Soviets had inflicted a blockade over West Berlin to starve out the population. Over an air-lift organized by the Americans and by the British, the of the splitted city was provided with the most necessary during this time. The record of this air supply ws obtained on April 16, 1949 as 12.941 tons of food, coal and medicaments were brought to Berlin by American Skymaster - and British York aeroplanes. In those two days the senate of the city and the three Western Allies think of the air-lift anniversary - and also the Berlin population will remember this terrible times at the 25. anniversary of raising the blockade.
