Nov. 11, 1973 - Flying Meteorological Laboratory. A flying meteorological laboratory, the Hercules, is expected to make its first scientific flight next summer. The equipment aboard the aircraft will include a long snout containing weather monitoring devices. It will also be the first aircraft to carry laser picture equipment for the taking of three dimensional pictures of cloud formation, and may provide the answer to the question, why does it rain? Results, along with other research by the Meteorological Flight at the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough, will also lead to more accurate weather forecasting.
