May 05, 1972 - Plane Hijackers surrender: Four hijackers of Turkish nationaliry surrendered last week after seizing a Turkish DC-9 airliner with more than 60 people aboard between Ankara and Istambul and forced it to fly to sofia, Bulgaria. They threatened to blow up the plane and the passengers if the Turkish government did not free six guerillas held under sentence of death. The Government held for 28 hours-but the Turkish men. It agreed however, to Bulgaria granting the hijackers political asylum. The passengers left the plane in high spirits.
