Alcohol - Prohibition
Sep. 11, 1958 - A Docker Takes Time Off From Unloading Ships To Open East End Dockers Pub. Today, 45-year-old docker George Denton, took time off from unloading ships in Victoria Docks to open a new public house, the New Gog in Freemason's Road, in the East End. He did so by drinking a yard of ale, beer contained in a 3ft. long glass tube shaped like a hunting horn. George says he has never drunk from one before, but admits he has had a little experience of drinking beer. The New Gog is the former Royal Albert which was completely demolished by enemy action on Jan, 13 1945. Photo Shows: Mr.George Denton, the docker, performs the opening ceremony of the New Gog public house, by drinking a yard of ale contained in a 3-foot-long glass tube shaped like a hunting horn, a vessel introduced in the 16th century
