Dec. 11, 1970 - Wine Taster of The Year Competition Grand Final At The Savoy Hotel: Thirty competitors, all ordinary members of the public began the final stage of the country's biggest ever and most difficult wine tasting competition Wine Taster of the year at the Savoy Hotel. The thirty competitors-including thirteen women have each won a regional Degustation Anonyme (blind wine tasting) in order to reach the grand final. This year the contest carries, for the first time, a special Woman - Wine Taster Of The Year prize. At the Grand Final each contestant has to taste, blind, a dozen different wines and points were awarded for accuracy in spotting country of origin, region, commune, Cnateau and even vintage.
