Alex Mortimer conducts brass band, Royal Albert Hall
Oct. 10, 1962 - The Sit-Down Band Conductor's Triumph: A sick man left his bed on Saturday to help 25 men win the Daily Herald Brass Band championship. Mr. Alex Mortimer, 57-year-old musical director of CWS Manchester, had not recovered from a bronchial attack, and he disobeyed doctor's orders - sitting on a stool in the Royal Albert Hall, London, he conducted the band to victory, with Verdi's Force of Destiny overture.
