May 05, 1969 - Peace rally at national cemetery in Terezin fortress. A huge peace rally was held at the national cemetery in Terezin fortress, Northern Bohemian, on 18 May by about 50, 000 people to pay tribute to the memory of the more than 40, 000 victims from 17 countries of Europe whom the Nazis tortured there. The rally was attended by Czechoslovak president Ludvik Svoboda, chairman of the Federal Assembly Alexander Dubcek, Josef Smrkovsky, first vice-chairman of the Federal Assembly and chairman of the house of the people, Dr. Cestmir Cisar, Chairman of the Czech National Council and Stanislav Razl, Czech Premier, Members of the Prague diplomatic corps representing Bulgaria, Italy, Yugoslavia, Hungary, the German Democratic citizens who were imprisoned in the Terezin concentration camp also attended as well as delegations of anti-fascists and resistance fighters and former prisoners from many European countries. Wreaths were laid at the memorial to the victims and afterwards a minute's silence was held to pay respect to the dead. the main speech was delivered by Alexander Dubcek. During the second World War, Terezin was the largest Nazi concentration camp in Czechoslovakia. It consisted of the Little Fortress, the Ghetto and the Richard Camp.
