Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Russian writer, wins Nobel Prize
Oct. 08, 1970 - October 8th - 1970. Rebel Russian author is awarded the 1970 Nobel Prize for Literature. The Swedish Academy awarded the 1970 Nobel Prize for Literature yesterday to the 51 year old rebel Russian writer Alexander Solzhenitsyn, author of Cancer Ward, The First Circle and One Day in the life of Ivan Denisovich'. The prize of ?32, 000 was given for the ethical force with which he has pursued the indispensable tradition of Russian literature.
