Alfred Eaglen, violin maker from Kippax, Yorkshire

Miner Violin Maker: When Alfred Eaglen, from Kippax, Yorkshire was a boy, he went down the local mines as did most of his contemporaries in the area. There he stayed until he retired eight years ago. But, Alfred is no ordinary miner. He is also the creator of miniature violins which are exact copies of the most famous manufactured in the world today, and each piece is dedicated to the people in history who have inspired him. Whilst out on strike, more years ago than he cares to remember, Alfred decided he could do things with his hands, things more delicate than coal mining. He had always been interested in music, but his friends didn't think his hands would be capable of such a delicate task. But his first attempt worked and without any experience he went ahead with delightful full size instruments and Yehudi Menuhin even owns one of Alf's achievements.
