Altar rails for American Memorial Chapel, St Paul's

Oct. 10, 1958 - Altar Rails For The American Memorial Chapel At St. Paul's Cathedral: The Altar Rails which have been made for the American Memorial Chapel - St. Paul's Cathedral - received a last minute check-up this morning at the makers - Messrs. Wainwright and Waring Ltd. Mortlake. The capping rail is of bronze and the remainder of hand forged wrought iron. They have a curved length of 20 ft. and weigh 8wt. - and have taken ten months to make. The rails are to be desc aled and sealed and painted black - and will be gilded on the spot. The American Chapel is to be dedicated at a special service attended by H.M. The Queen and the Vice President of the United States - on November 26th. the day before Thanksgiving Day. Photo shows: The Altar Rails have a last minute check-up this afternoon before being taken away for de-scaling and painting today
