US ambassador to Italy, Clare Booth Luce, Rome
Feb. 02, 1955 - AMBASSADOR CLARE BOOTH LUCE SIGNS AWAY MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO SCELBA FOR ITALY. United States Ambassador, CLARE BOOTH LUCE, recently signed a treaty with Italian Prime Ministsr, SCELBA, at the Vimin.le Piklaoe in Rome, in which the US give Italy 5, 520, 000 with which to buy American cotton. This sum will not be repaid to the US by Italy, but will be used for reconstruction. The second part of the treaty allowed Italy to use for reconstruction 37 million dollars which the US lent to Italy to carry out her occupation of Trieste.
