1957 - US Guests on Goodwill Visit Pay 2/6d for their Tea: A Party of American tourists on a goodwill visit, yesterday had tea and Sandwiches with the mayor of St. Pancras, Councillor Alfred Hurst. And they will get a bill for 2/6d a head for it. Then they Presented Councillor Hurst with a golden key of Friendship from the people of Camden, New Jersey. When asked why he had charged for the tea, the mayor, who receives 750 a year Expenses, said: I didn't invite them. They invite Themselves. If President Eisenhower had sent them over on an official visit, things might have been different. But they offered to pay for the teas themselves through the tourist agency.
