Dec. 12, 1974 - Women Who Tried To Stop Armed Gang Wins Binney Medal: Shots were fired at Mrs Jessie Burns by a gunman leaning out of the geteway car when she refused to move out of its way. For her courage in attempting to delay a gang of armed robbers Mrs Burns today received a Binney Memorial Medal from the Lord Mayor Sir Murray Fox at Goldsmith's Hall. Fortunately Mrs Burns was unhurt as the gun was either a starting pistol or leaded with blanks, but at the time she did not know this.
