Ancient stadium handed to Olympic Committee, Greece

Jun. 06, 1961 - Ancient Stadium Handed back to Olympic committees at Olympia, Greece. During a ceremony held in the Ancient Olympia the German Archaeological School in Athens turned over to the Greek Olympic Games Committee the ancient Greek Stadium of Olympic Games which was restored by them. Unfortunately the ceremony was marred by rain and had to be carried out under cover. Members of Olympic Games Committee from many countries attended the ceremonies and a few demonstrations were held in the open air - but not in the newly restored stadium as it was covered with mud.
