Andreas Papandreou in Greek elections
Oct. 10, 1977 - Andreas Papandreou, radical anti-nationalist leader of the Panhellenic Socialist Party, who won 13.5 percent of the vote and 15 seats in parliament and came in third in the last elections. His is the only major party to object to Greece's planned membership of the EEC, and also wants complete withdrawal from NATO and closing down of American bases. Observers say the party is gaining ground over the center party, and may indeed come second in the forthcoming elections with a narrow margin from Mavros
