Jul. 16, 1954 - Poland's Leading Composer Quits His Country. Mr. Andrzej Panufnik, Poland's leading Composer-Conductor Mr. Andrzej Panufnik who vanished from Warsaw without permission of the Communist authorities is reported to be in London - with his Irish wife Scarlett (Marie Elizabeth O'Mahoney). It is reported that Communist agents are hunting for them all over Europe. Mr. Panufnik is 40 years of age and has received the highest Communist Honours - and is chairman of the Communist Polish National Society of Composers. Mrs. Panufnik was the first to vanish - she flew to London some months ago to visit her family and then decided to stay here. The Communist authorities authorised Panufnik to cross the Iron Curtain to Zurich to make recordings of his own compositions.
