Jul. 16, 1954 - Poland's leading composer quits his country. Mr. Andrzej Panufnik: Poland's leading composer conductor Mr. Andrzej Panufnik who vanished from Warsaw without permission of the communist authorities - is reported to be in London with his Irish wife Mrs. Scarlett Panufnik. It is reported that Communist agents are hunting them all over Europe. Mr. Panufnik is 40 years of age and has received the highest communist honours - and is chairman of the communist Polish National Society of Composers. Mrs. Panufnik was the first to vanish - she flew to London some months ago to visit her family and then decided to stay here. The communist authorities authorized Panufnik to cross the Iron Curtain to Zurich to make recordings of his own compositions. Mrs. Panufnik joined him there and then they vanished and are together now in London. Photo Shows Mr. and Mrs. Panufnik together in the garden of their temporary home near London
