1968 - Celebrated new arrival at Los Angeles zoo. Birth of a baby Lowland Gorilla is being celebrated at the Los Angeles zoo in California, as a highly significant event. First to be born at that zoo, the gorilla - a species threatened with extinction - is being raised in the childrens nursery where it is fed a milk formula every 2 1/2 hours.
