1953 - Baby elephant for London Zoom arrives.: A baby elephant, destined for the Zoological Gardens, Regent's Park, arrived at London Airport today from Assam. Her name is Lakhsmi (after the Hindu goddess of wealth). Lakhsmi was caught in February in Assam, and is 4 ft. lin. high. Photo shows 4-year old Dorian Pyle, of-Sidoup, takes a ride on the back of Lakhsmi, the baby elephant at London Airport today
