Dec. 12, 1956 - The London Zoo's Newcomer-A Baby Baboon Makes Its Debut: The London Zoo's latest newcomer is a baboon, now two days old, which has been christened George'. His mother, Peppita, is a mandrill from West Africa, one of the apes with the scarlet and bright blue facial markings, which always intrigue Zoo visitors. Mandrills seldom breed in captivity a although this is Peppita's second Zoo baby. Her first, georgina, died within a year of birth during an which swept the monkey house.
