Jan. 16, 1959 - Struggle To save 590 Monkeys.. RSPCA Workers Busy At London Airport. R.S.P.C.A workers have been working since yesterday at their London Airport headquarters trying to save the lives of 590 monkeys - th survivors of a batch of 800 flying from Ethiopia to Canada - for use in polio research. Many of the monkeys died aboard the aircraft - suffering from a combination of dysnety and enterits. The aircraft made a landing at Hurn, c in an effort to save some of them before flying on to London Airport.
