Feb. 16, 1957 - Special scaffolding for ailing giraffe in Japan.: An unkown disease is killing off the Kenya giraffes in Japan. the latest to become a victim of the disease is Nagako in the Yokohama Zoo. The ailing giraffe is 9 years old, and four veterinaries are fighting for her life. A special padded scaffolding has been erected so that she can be kept still whilst the veta examine her and give vitamin injections. One opinion is that the dry weather is responsible. The Yokohama Zoo have previously lost two male giraffes who were mates or Nagako'. Last month, the Csaka Zoo, hundreds of miles from Yokohama, lst their Kenya giraffe in a similar mysterious disease. Photo shows nagako, the nine year old Kenya giraffe, seen in her special observation scaffolding as he receives attention from a vet, who has to mount a pair of step ladders to listen to her heartbeats with his stethoscope
