Animals - Aquariums - Archeology - Insects - Fossils - Zoos

Mar. 27 White sideburns distinguish the rarely-exhibited Francois leaf monkeys which recently made their public debut at the San Diego Zoo. Acquired in an animal exchange program with the People's Republic of China, the four Francois monkeys at the zoo are the only members of this species outside of Aisa. The leaf-eating langur species is native to China's Guangxi province, near the Vietnam border. Little is known of the Francois monkey;s life in the wild, though it is believed to live in small groups along river cliffs, eating large quantities of leaves, flowers and buds. Francois monkeys are black with long tails, long fur pointed crowns and white facial highlights
