Mar. 02 Ken Jones: The Man who saves the seas. Instrumental in the fight to save lives of hundred of baby seals washed up on the coasts of Cornwall, is 42 year old welsh cafe proppietor Ken Jones, of St. Agnes. Ken first became interested in seals in 1961, when he resound a sick baby seal, Receiving much publicity in the local press. When another young seal was washed up, Ken was asked to look after it - and in a short time it was healthy and released. And when one of the seals recovered, but was found to have severe lung damage, Ken decided there was only one thing for it -he dug a pond in his front garden, and turned his home into a seal sanctuary. Since 1961, Ken has continued his work, releasing about a dose healthy seals back to the sea each year, and keeping in the pond those not fit to be free, and his sanctuary has become a popular tourist attraction visited by over2, 00, 000 people a year.
