The London Zoo's Newcomer - A Baby Baboon Makes its Debut: The London Zoo's latest newcomer is a baby baboon, now two days old, which has been christened George'. His mother, Peppita, is a mandrill from West Africa, one of the apes with the scarlet and bright blue facial markings, which always intrigue Zoo visitors.Mandrills seldom breed in captivity Although this is Peppita's second Zoo baby. Her first, Georgina, died within a year of birth during an epidemic which swept the monkey house.
