Apr. 17 Henrietta and her brood: The old expression fussy as an old hen is right when applied to Henrietta. She couldnt fluck louder and more often if the kittens were really her own babies. Their plaintive cries attracted the attention of Henrietta, a fins hen under whose feathery breast beats a tender heart. Henrietta took over the duties of mother and although the mother cat comes back to feed the little babies, Henrietta is in real charge and guards and watches them as jealously as she would her own chicks. The kittens are now three weeks old, they recognize Henrietta's cluck and will come to her when she calls although they will not go to any other hen in the yard. Henrietta and her strange brood get a lot of visitors and their owner says anyone can have the kittens who wants them and what will poor Henrietta do then, poor thing? She'll have to fine some other feathered or furred waifs and strays to take under her wing
