Mar. 31 Elephant A 27 year old female elephant known as Diksi has died in London Zoo after falling into the moat which separates the elephant paddock from spectators. Diksi, a four ton elephant of the African variety, was apparently nudged into the five foot deep ditch by another behemoth as they competed for a peanut held out by an admirer. A crane was brought in to lift Diksi out, but she appeared to be suffering, as a result of an injured leg and possibly, internal injuries. She lowered into a reclining position again and died shortly afterward, possibly of a heart attack. Picyure Shows: The attempt to lift Dixie which had to be given up
