Mar. 31 Ken Jones : the man who saves the seals : Instrumental in the fight to save the lives of hundreds of baby seals washed up on the coasts of Cornwall, is 42 year old welsh cafe proprietor ken Jones, of st. Agnes. Ken first became interested in seals in 1961, when he rescued a sick baby seal, receiving much publicity in the local press. when another young seel was washed up, ken was asked to look after it - and in a short time it was healthy and released. And when one of the seals recovered, but was found to have severe lung damage, ken decided there was only one thing for it-he dug a pond in his front garden, and turned his home into a seal sanctuary. since 1961, ken has continued his work, releasing about a dozen healthy seals not fit to be free, and his sanctuary has become a popular tourist attraction visited by over 200, 000 people a year. and this winter has been the worse ever for seals, for many are sick and dying from a mystery virus disease, pasturele - which is affection adult seals as well as pups - and ken Jones is continuing his work, working harder than ever, in the hope to save a whole generation of seals from destruction.
