Apr. 18 Two cubs - a male and a female were given birth by a pair of Pumas -also known as Mountain Lions or Cougar at Alipore Zoo in Calcutta on March 20, 75. The pair of Pumas were acquired from M/s Ravens ton Zoological Co.Ltd.of U.K.as part of preparation for the Century Celebrations of the Alipore Zoo. the pair were christened as Shikhar Shikhari by West Bengal Minister Pradip Bhattacharya. Pumas are found in N&s America extending from S.Canada to patagonia. They hunt much on ground and deer seems to be their favorite food. they don't rear but sound like whistling of birds and according to Zoo authorities these are rare collection prior to centenary celebrations. the average longevity of pumas is 16 years. our picture is taken recently shows the two cubs with their mother Shikhari
