Mar. 02 Introducing The World's First Leopons'. Made In Japan'.: For the first time in the world - the keepers at the Hanshin Park Zoo, near Osaka -Japan have succeded in mating a Leopard and a Lioness - and two Leopard-lions have been born - known as Leopons'. Previously Lions and Tigers have been mated -- to produce Ligers'; a Lioness and a tiger, producing tigons'; and there has been a lion ad a leopardess union with the production of Lipards'. The Leopard named Koshio is 4 years 9 months old and came from Hagenbach Menagerie - Germany - while Sonoko the lioness, almost the same age was born at the Osaka Zoo. The two cubs- born on Nov. 2nd. are 4 kilos each in weight, with face like lions and bodies spotted like leopards. Before the mating the parents were injected with hormones.
