Mar. 31 Chi-Chi still holds the Limelight: The first lady of the animal world, the giant panda, Chi-chi is facing her final curtain at the age of 15. The old trouper at Regents Park Zoo is dying childless and the British public are showing their true love for her. she doesnt often leave the tranquility of her cave at the zoo and the matinee performances that she gave so freely have had to be cancelled. Chi-Chi arrived from the bamboo forests of China in 1958 and was unsuccessfully mated with the Russian Panda An-An in 1968. It is only ocassionally now that she will shoe her say-eyes and her going will be a great loss to our nation of animal lovers
