1961 - Airedale Is Found In Rabbit Hole - With 11 Pups: A valuable airedale dog, Jean, which bolted from Carlisle railway station on a trip from Kilmarnock to the Midlands nine weeks ago, was found yesterday huddled in a rabbit hole with - eleven two -day old puppies. Police and R.S.P.C.A. Inspector, Harry Brown found Jean and her new family in a field near Carlisle. Squeaks were heard coming from a rabbit hole. Chief Inspector Brown said: We dug very carefully and found a football team of puppies. jean was ravenous with hunger. After a good meal she was a different dog'. The puppies were put in a basket and taken to their temporary home - kennels at Baldwinholme, near Carlisle. Jean was on her way from Kjlmarnock to Sutton Coldfield, addressed to Mr. J. Brampton, at Blake Street Station. She bolted from her basket while changing trains and ever since police had been on the look-out for her.
