1961 - Police Claim Chimp Attacked Them: A screeching Chimpanzee attacked two police officers when they tried to arrest a man, a court was told earlier this week. The attack began after the officers had stooped pet shop manager Charles Chorlton, of Derby Street, Bolton, as he was driving. but as they tired to arrest the man, Midge, hsi pet 10-stone pet Chimpanzee attacked them. The officers had released Chorlton while his wife put a lead on the chimp. Chorlton, 52, elected to go for trial at Liverpool Sessions charges with driving under the influence of Drink.
