1961 - Two hundred feet up when a dog's best friend is a man. New Mountain rescue technique: A new down to earth technique for dogs has been devised by the R.A.F. Mountain Rescue men now rehearsing for the Royal Tournament in which a true to life drama will be enacted. They will carry out an intensive mountainside search for a crashed pilot with the aid of RAF. Rescue dog Phao who finds him. The pilot is badly injured and is taken down the mountainside by specially prepared stretcher the dog being supported in a special box strapped to the back of rescuer. The technique has been tested out successfully on the towering Yellow Wall of Holyhead Mountain, Anglesey. Photo shows the Rescue Dog Phao is in his special container which is strapped to back of Rescue man, who walks down the mountainside supporting the stretcher on which the injured pilot is strapped. They are operated by winch from the cliff top
