Dec. 12, 1963 - First Giant Panda Born in Captivity: A giant Panda, one of the World's most rare animals, has been born in the Peking Zoo. This is the first giant panda ever to be born in captivity, and it is now more than two months old. The Peking zoo has had more than ten giant pandas, but has only recently attempted to breed them. Big Zoos in Europe and America have had about ten giant pandas but have tried to breed them in vain
