Sep. 09, 1962 - Kangaroo Slaughter Con: An outery has been raised in Australia against the wholesale slaughter of kangaroos by professional and amateur hunters. The kangaroos fetch 15 siblings a head from canning companies which sell the meat as pets food, others hunt them for their hides. An estimated 10, 000 are killed every week a rate which, a naturalist warned recently, could soon wipe out the species. Animal welfare societies have asked the Federal government to step in there is no law limiting the numbers of kangaroos which may be killed, because or anised killing has been necessary when they reach pest proportion.
