Feb. 20, 1964 - Baby Hippo makes its debut; Being seen for the first time at Whipsnade zoo this morning was the baby West African Pygmy Hippopotamus that was born on November 16th, to mother Santa and Ducor. The baby, which now weighs 161lbs, is causing the zoo authorities a problem, because owing to the fierceness of Senta, they haven't been able to get near enough to identify the sex of the baby, and an American Zoo has offered2, 000 for the baby if it is a male, but only1, 500 if it is female.
