Sep. 09, 1965 - The first report of the world wildlife fund: Naturalist Peter Scott planned to publicise the first report of the World Wildlife fund yesterday, by reading extracts to a panda - at the London Zoo. but the panda didn't want to know. All went well however the panda didn't want to know. All went well however, when a white rhinoceros called Beni was called into deputiese for the panda. The theme of Mr. Scott's reading was that what happened to the dodo must never happen again. Mr. Scott said it was just as important to preserve the natural treasures of wildlife as it was to preserve man-made treasure like Westminster Abbey or the Mna Lisa. But if can be a costly business. In the four years since the fund was launched, 675, 000 has been spent. Of this Britain has contributed189, 000 making this country the leaders of the movement. Even more money will be needed in future, and the fund organisers hope to make2 million a year, according to their report, which they call Launching of a New Ark'. Not all the money will come from Britain. For Belgium, Denmark, Italy, Sweden and Norway are expected to join the countries already supporting the scheme.
