Aug. 08, 1966 - Two White Rhinos In Same Paddock At The Zoo.: Ben and Mashobeni, the two whits Rhinoceroses living in the Elephant Pavilion at the London Zoo, were put together in the same paddock for the first time last night. This meeting was very satisfactory, and after some initial playful sparring they settled down well together. Ben came to the London Zoo from Uganda in 1955 and Mashobeni, who was purchased from the Natal Parks Game and Fish Preservation Board in 1962, was transferred from Whipsnade Park to the London Zoo in October 1964 as a mate for Ben, whose previous mate had died earlier that year. The two animals have spent the intervening period getting to know mash other by sight and smell in next door dens when inside the Pavilion, as an untimely meeting between these two powerful three-tonners was not advisable.
