Sep. 09, 1967 - Very rare baby for the Zoo of Basel. This Okapi-baby is one of the very few Okapis born in a Zoological garden. Basel seems to specialized in breeding in Okapi-breeding, then this is the fifth born in Switzerland. It is very important to further the breeding of this Congo-animal in captivity, because living conditions in Africa get worse for them. Our photo shows the two days old Okapi with his mother
