Feb. 02, 1967 - So Tired: A lazy lion (picture here) has last his job as a star of a city zoo-because he keeps dozing off. For when the lion-6-month old Champers-should be prowling round his cage and roaring at the visitors, he just curls up in his corner for a cat-nap. He'll have to go, said 43-year old Mr. Richard Wagstaff, manager of Newcastle-on-Tyne zoo. Our visitors keep asking us if he is ill-but there never was a healthier lion. He is just bone idle so we are having to sack him and get a fiercer lion to do his job. added Mr. Wagstaff. Now Champer is to leave the zoo-which is showing in the city during the winter he will live with other lions including his sister. His mother played Elsa, a tame lioness, in the film Born Free'. We will be sorry to see Champers go-but-he simply doesn't behave like a lion should, said Mr. Wagstaff
