Jun. 06, 1967 - Elephant dies at London Zoo: The African elephant, called Diksie, died yesterday at the London Zoo. She had been catching food thrown by spectators when another elephant tried catching to bump it out of the way. Diksie fell five feet into the trench built in front of the elephant compound and could lift the elephant. Diksie nearly palled it over. a stronger crane was brought, but it was too late. Diksie died for four hours. Diksie, aged 27 and the oldest of the Zoo's for elephants, weighed four tons. Photo shows Diksie the elephant pictured yesterday in the ditch into which she fell
