Jun. 06, 1967 - Grant For Antler Collection: The Government is providing funds to repair a stable block at a Staffordshire Stately home for the display of Britain's finest collection of stags heads and antlers, at presently hung in an old coach house at Withheld-Fold, near Choosy, Lanes. It is the collection of Mr. Kenneth Whitehead, 53, Britain's leading expert on deary who manages a paper mill at Withheld Fold, Lanes. In December, 1965, he married the widow of the sixth Lord Baget, who required after her husband's death, Blithfield Hall, near Rugeley, one of the show places of the Midlands. The Whitehead collection, probability the most comprehensive in Europe, en eludes every species in the world execpt three. Starting in the early 1930's with deer he shot himself, Mr. Whitehead now has more than 700 mounted heads and antlers, So highly is he regarded that the 12th. Duke of Bedford bequeathed him his collection. The collection includes the famous 20-pointer head from Hadleigh, Devon. Most of the exhhibits were got together by the late Sir Edmund Loder, of Leonardslee, Sussex, including a wheel skeleton of a giant deer, extinct for about 9, 400 years, dug out of an Irish peat bog in the late 19th Century. This 23-pointer has a span of 9ft. 61ns. The Ministry of Housing and Local Government is giving a maximum grant of, 500 towards repairs of the stables at Blithfireld as thee new home of this balusable assembly, The major problem will be the removal of hundreds of delicate items from their present Lancashire home.
