Jan. 01, 1967 - Britain's first Pure-Bred Charolais calf.: The little white bull romping around the snow-covered fields of an Oxfordshire farm is something of a trendsetter in British cattle breeding. For Crusader of Cross Lanes is Britain's first pure-bred Charolais calf, a descendant of the famous French beef-cattle breed. With him is 14-year old Deborah Chapman, who insisted on attending the NEw year's day birth at her father's farm near Caversham. Mr. Roger Chapman bought Crusader's mother in the first importation of heifers from France. Deborah explained the 90lb. bull's importance thus Up to now, British farmers have been using imported Caarolais bulls to improve their herds, bur Daddy and I want to become suppliers of pure-bred stock to the trade. With Crusader of Cross Lanes. th1ey are well on the way
