Feb. 02, 1965 - The Hunters wolf who escaped from Whipsnade Zoo is tracked down and Shot: The search for the wolf which escaped from Whipsnade Zoo three days ago ended yesterday with the creature being shot by zoo keepers Len Warner and Bill Lilley. The hunt occupied two R.A.F. Chipmunks as R.A.F. Helicopter; five tracker dogs - 30 policemen - 10 Zoo staff three R.S.P.C.A. inspectors and 12 locals. The animal was cornered, hungry and exhausted by a stream near Hitchen - Herts and because it was dangerous in its hungry condition it was shot. Photo shows zoo keepers Len Warner and Bill Lilley and the wolf after they had shot it near Hatchen, Herts yesterday
