May 05, 1968 - Live Falcons at Covent Garden. On Wednesday, May 15th, the Royal Ballet will present a new production of the ever popular ballet Giselle. The production is by Peter Wright and scenery and costumes are by Peter Farmer. This ballet will subsequently be seen in Switzerland, France, Pertugal, Spain, Italy and Heiland, when the Royal Ballet makes a 14-week tour of Europe during May, June, July and August. In the first act of Giselle, two live peregrine falcons are to be used at Covent Garden during the hunting scene. As this is the first time live falcons have been seen at Covent Garden, there was a special photo call for the two ballet principals, Elizabeth Anderton and David wall, the two falcons and their handler 18-year old Jemima Glasier. whose father trained the birds in Gloucestershire. Jemima will carry one of the falcons on stage, and Alan Xhutrin the other. The two falcons are Claude Eustace (he is a peregrine falcon from Italy) and Herbert (he is a saker falcon from the Sahara desart).
