Animals - Aquariums - Archeology - Insects - Fossils - Zoos

Jun. 22, 1967 - AND ANOTHER LIGHTWEIGHT SUIT COMES ON THE BRITISH MARKET. Five South African alpacas at Dudley Zoo were sheared yesterday. The alpaca is a relative of the camel and the llama. Its long hair, which is used for making lightweight suits, gives it an agreeably sleepy appearance. Without its coat, however, it has no air of distinction whatever; although, said Mr. Cyril Grace, general of the zoo the heat and the long hair have been making the alpacas lives uncomfortable'. Three men held down each alpaca as it was sheared by a farmer, Mr. Jim Hughes. One wonders how the animals managed before he came along. Photo Shows:- Having been sheared of his long-haired coat by farmer Hughes, the alpaca leaps to his feet and scampers away
