May 05, 1969 - Remarkable Rhinoceros Breed in the Zooligical Garden of Basel: Various are the spectacular success in breeding of the zoological garden of Basel. Some of them are of supreme international value. So the remarkable rhinoceros breed the only one in the whole world. This is the more important seen the fact, that these armoured rhinoceros of Assam and Nepal are nowadays dyeing out. Since 1951 when Basel received the first couple of young rhinoceros, nine babies are born in that captivity. Some of them have been given to other European and American zoos. Photo shows the youngest member of that famous family, born thenten days ago, with his mother Joymothi. The weight at birth was 78 kgs. The mother weights about 1.8 tons
